Khaleda, Tarique distort history: Want Hasina’s democracy: Gaffar Chy

Columnist Abdul Gaffar Choudhury on Friday said Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairman Khaleda Zia and senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman continued to try to distort the country’s history.
“When conspiracy to destroy the country begins, a move also starts to distort its history. After killing Bangabandhu, as the killers had understood that the ideology of Bangabandhu can’t be destroyed they started distorting the history,” he said while addressing at a discussion at National Press Club in city on Friday. To mark the Victory Day, the coordinating council for professionals organised the discussion with its president ASM Mezbahuddin in chair. Dhaka University vice-chancellor professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury information advisor to Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, organisation secretary general Quamrul Hassan and other also took part in the discussion.
He said such distortion of history is supplied from Pakistan and Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman are trying to establish these in this country.
“It is very unfortunate for all of us when we see many efforts are being initiated to make Ziaur Rahman as Bangladesh’s first president and independence proclaimer,” Gaffar Choudhury said.
He said Begum Zia’s family had been saved due to Bangabandu’s direct intervention.
“Ziaur Rahman had wanted to divorce Khaleda Zia. But as per the directive of Bangabandhu, he didn’t divorce her. After the return, Bangabandhu didn’t enquire about his two daughters. But he (Bangabandhu) enquired as to your (Khaleda) whereabouts as he had considered you were his third girl. But we have to witness Bangabandhu’s that daughter (Khaleda) now celebrates her birthday day on August 15,” Gaffar Choudhury said.
He termed the distortion of history as a big crime saying enacting law like Germany and England the government will have to try those who are involved in distorting the history.
“Losing power I think Tarique Rhaman has gone mad. Like Shah Miron, son of the arch-traitor, Mir Zafar Ali Khan, who killed Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla, Tarique Rahman is now doing the same. I’m demanding of the government to take legal action against him (Tarique),” the columnist observed.
Referring to statement of Ganoforum president Dr Kamal Hossain he said that he does not want Kamal Hossain type democracy.
“Dr Kamal Hossain is saying there is no democracy in the country. We don’t want to see Dr. Kamal’s democracy rather want Sheikh Hasina’s democracy. Sheikh Hasina has saved the country by holding January 5 general elections. If the distortion of history is stopped, the trend of political case will also be stooped,” he said. – Staff Reporter
