A senior BNP leader said on Saturday although the N’ganj city administration did not give permission to hold a rally in Narayanganj, BNP chairperson and former premier Begum Khaleda Zia would visit the district on Wednesday to express her sympathy for the family members of seven victims of abduction-murder.
Though the local BNP have not got permission to hold the planned rally but the schedule for Khaleda Zia’s visit would remain unchanged. She is expected to visit the residences of Nazrul Islam and Chandan Sarkar, he added.“Police has not given us permission to hold rally in Narayanganj to mark the visit of party chairerpson Khaleda Zia,” said district BNP president Advocate Toimur Alam Khandaker.
He said there would be no meeting rally on the day. The chairperson will only visit the residences of Nazrul Islam and Chandan Sarkar on Wednesday and express her sympathy for the family members of the seven people who had been abducted and killed recently.
Toimur said they had sought permission to hold a meeting on Bangabandhu Lane in Narayanganj on Wednesday which was denied by city corporation authorities. Later, he said the party had sought permission from the deputy commissioner to hold the rally at Alauddin Stadium, but that too was refused.
Narayanganj City panel mayor Nazrul Islam, senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar and five others were abducted from the city’s Link Road on April 27 and were found dead on April 30.
Meanwhile, the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will hold a standing committee meeting at her Gulshan office at 8:00pm tonight and discussthe latest development in the political arena including seven murders in Narayanganj and her planned visit to the district.
Insiders said the meeting also discussed the party strategies, organizational and possible programmes to deal with the situation. – Staff Reporter
