Khaleda’s meet with bureaucrats raise eyebrews in some circles

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Thursday had a meeting with some serving and retired bureaucrats and employees at her Gulshan office, according to sources.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who was present at the meeting, however, denied that there was any serving official at the meeting.“Our chairperson (Khaleda) had a meeting with some former bureaucrats who are involved in BNP politics,” he added.
He termed the reported meeting with serving officials “false” and “baseless”.
Sources said some high level government officials who were made officer on special duty (OSD) during the Awami League government were present at the meeting.
Sources said the officials went to call on Khaleda Zia at about 8:30pm and come out from the office after 10:30pm included:
AKM Jahangir, administrative officer Ibrahim Miazi and Personal Officer Taufiqul Islam in the Ministry of Science and Technology, Nurul Islam of Ministry of Jute, Abdul Mannan of Ministry of LGRD, AKM Humayun Kabir and senior assistant secretary Ehsanul Haque, Sarker Toha of Ministry of Environment and Forests, Personal Officer in the Ministry of Public Administration Badiul Kabir, office assistant Shahidul Haque of Ministry of Information, MLSS Mamun and Mojahidul Islam of Cabinet Division reportedly attended the meeting.
Sources said more serving government officials went to the office of Khaleda Zia to call on her but that they left the venue sensing the presence of people of intelligent agencies.
The meeting led to many faceted speculations about political developments in the country. Some analysts who took part in television talk shows late last night blamed both the ruling Awami League and the BNP for involving members of the bureaucracy in political maneuvres – Staff Reporter
