Khijir Khan killing, Confession recorded from Tareq

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Sunday recorded the confessional statement of Tarequl Islam alias Tareq in the murder case filed in connection with the killing of former PDB Chairman Khijir Khan.M Lutfor Rahman Shishir, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of the CMM Court recorded the confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) on Sunday afternoon.

The same court placed Tareq and Alek Bepary, driver of the vehicle used by the miscreants during the murder of Khijir Khan, on a two-day remand in the case filed for killing Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqui, programme presenter of private television station

The court took the decision after Arshed Ali Mondol, Inspector of Criminal Investigation
Department (CID) and also the Investigation Officer of the case, produced them in the court seeking a 10-day remand for each. Both of them were shown arrested in the Faruqui murder case also.

Earlier, the accused persons were placed on 15 days’ remand in three phases in the Khijir Khan murder case.

A team of DB of police picked up Tareq, who is allegedly an active member of banned
militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), from Tangail while Alek Bepary was nabbed from Mirpur area in the capital.

On October 5, miscreants slaughtered former chairman of PDB Khijir Khan, 66. He was also known as a pir in the area. He was killed in his Khanka Sharif (place used for meeting with so called disciples) at Gudaraghat in the city’s Madhya Badda area.

On the other hand, Supreme Court Mosque Khatib Nurul Islam Faruqi was killed in his East Rajabazar residence of the city on August 27 last year.
