A Dhaka court Saturday rejected bail plea of Abdul Latif Siddique in a case filed in connection with his remarks against Hajj and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
Metropolitan Magistrate M Rezaul Karim of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka rejected the bail petition submitted by Latif Siddique’s lawyer Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua in on Sunday afternoon.On October 2, Lion Abu Bakar Siddique filed the case with a Dhaka court against the former minister. Earlier on November 25, the former Awami League leader was sent to jail after he surrendered to Dhaka court in another case filed for hurting the religious sentiments of the Muslims.
Former Post and Telecommunications Minister Latif Siddique made the derogatory remarks against Hajj, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and Tablig Jamaat at a programme in New York on September 28.
He was sacked from the cabinet on October 12 and later, also expelled from the Awami League presidium. – Court Correspondent
