Legendary precursors of Bangladeshi cinema remembered

August 18 was the 67th birth anniversary of thespian Selim Al Deen. Dhaka Theatre had arranged a two day theatre festival with support from Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The festival was held at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Shilpakala Academy and it concluded yesterday. The award giving ceremony of Selim Al Deen Padak was also held in conjunction. But the three day festival of Shapnadal is still on and will end today. This festival chants the slogan “Oupinibeshikotar Srinkhol Bhenge �.Shongi Selim Al Deen.” It remembers the recently deceased cultural personality Ranjit Kumar Biswas.

A film festival with the slogan “Protirodh-e Prostut Camera” was organised by Udichi Silpigosthi yesterday. To mark the 81st birth anniversary of visionary filmmaker Zahir Raihan the film festival was held under the titled “Zahir Raihan Chalachitra Utshob” at the Shawkat Osman Smrity Auditorium of Central Public Library in Shabagh. Cultural personality and president of Udichi, Kamal Lohani; Anal Raihan, son of Zahir Raihan and Shami Kaiser, niece of Zahir Raihan were present among others during the inauguration of the festival. Soumitra Dastidar the veteran film director from India also graced the event. Stop Genocide by Zahir Raihan, Runway by Tareque Masud, Shunte Ki Pao by Kamar Ahmed Simon and A Letter to My Daughter by Soumitra Dastidar were screened at the daylong festival.
