Madrasha Edu Dept asks for info on 1500 Ibtedayee Madrashas

Dhaka, Jan 18 – Directorate of Madrasha Education (DME) has sought information of the teachers of the 1,500 independent Ebtedayee Madrashas to know how many of them are active or left the jobs. Sources said that DME had sent letters to the Upazila Nirbahi Officers across the country to get to know the information of the teachers of 1,500 independent Ebtedayee Madrashas. The government provides some grants to these teachers as salaries.
Directorate sources said there are 1,519 independent Ebtedayee Madrashas that get grants from the government but some of these Madrashas have been shut down and some have been upgraded to Dakhil level.
Even some of the teachers who used to get grants from the government have left their jobs. On the other hand, some teachers are not getting grants even after working for a long time in the Madrashas, sources said.
DME said taking all these matters under consideration, a streamlining for the teachers is necessary to remove the existing problems and to ensure proper grants for all. So the data of the teachers of these educational institutions is necessary to overcome the situation.
Directorate sources said they have sent letters to the Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNO) through the deputy commissioners of the districts to collect information about the teachers working in Independent Ebtedayee Madrashas and to send the information by 30 January.
The UNOs will send information about the name of the Madrashas including the name of the teachers, post, index number, date of birth, educational qualification, joining date, bank account number and other particulars about the teachers, if any.
DME sources said the teachers who want to get grants will have to apply to the Directorate for it.
Sources said after getting all the information of the teachers, the government will take steps for the betterment of the teachers working in the Madrashas.
The teachers of the Independent Ebtedayee Madrashas are only getting some grants as salary from last one year but earlier they did not have any salaries for over 30 years.
President of Bangladesh Independent Ebtedayee Madrasha Teachers Association Kazi Ruhul Amin Chowdhury told journalists, “The government has formulated a policy for the Independent Ebtedayee Madrshas November last year but the government did not publish any gazette of it. We don’t know when it will be published.”
“The government promised us to ensure regular salaries for us under a salary structure but there is no news of it. We would sit with the government soon to convey our message about it,” he added.
“Right now the teachers are passing a miserable life with a scanty amount of money as grants like Tk 15,00 or Tk 2,500 per month. We want a proper salary as we are contributing to the education as well for a long time,” he said. – Staff Reporter
