Dhaka, Aug 7 – The ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday alleged that BNP and the masterminds of one-eleven are now conspiring together in a bid to topple the government.“While a peaceful atmosphere has been prevailing in the country, BNP and masterminds of one-eleven have started hatching a conspiracy against the government, to catch fish in the troubled water,” he said.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister said claim this while speaking at a press conference at AL president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmandi political office in the city.
The AL general secretary also criticized Gono Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain for his a statement that the reign of hooliganism is prevailing in the country instead of democracy. “I will ask him (Kamal) what is hooliganism. We were attacked during the students’ movement but we have been made attackers deliberately,” he said.
About the new draft of road transport act, Quader said the highest punishment will be ensured for the killers through the new law.
“According to the draft of the new law, the highest punishment is the death penalty. If anyone occurs accident intentionally then the culprit will face the death penalty,” he said.
The minister also told that the law enforcers have already arrested four, who were involved with the tragic road accident, and the government is optimistic to bring to book anyhow.
He said the draft of the new law for road safety has already approved in the cabinet meeting and the new law will be placed in the next session of the parliament.
Extending thanks to the students and their guardians for withdrawing their programmes the minister said the government has taken adequate steps for implementing nine-point demands of the student for ensuring road safety.
He also claimed BCL men did not attack the agitated students and miscreants might have attacked students posing as BCL. But BCL is being criticised in country and worldwide as well.
Quader also claimed that they have informed the United Nations that allegation against Awami League that Awami League government regarding the attacks on students, is baseless.
The students of school and colleges had started agitations which continued more than a week protesting the death of their two fellow students on the airport road in a bus accident on July 29.
