Dhaka – Mentioning that media is not an opponent of democracy, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Tuesday said the government is working to ensure a smooth journey of media alongside saving the democracy.
Inu came up with the remark while addressing as chief guest the national conference on Mass Communication and Journalism held at the Senate Building of Dhaka University (DU). UNB news agency repoted
He said politicians can make mistakes but media do not have any opportunity to make a fault. Media deserve the right to criticise any fault of the government but they don’t have any space to play role like the villain, the minister added.
Inu said the introduction of new laws, policies and legal frameworks for journalists will not affect their profession rather those will work as the safeguards of the watchdogs.
Earlier, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference titled ‘Mapping the terrain of Mass Media research in Bangladesh’ at the Senate Bhaban Auditorium.
Information adviser to the Prime Minister Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury delivered speech as special guest while Chief Information Commissioner Prof Dr Golam Rahman delivered the keynote paper in the conference.
