Militancy ‘financer’ held with Tk 30 lakh in Dhaka’s Savar

Dhaka – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Saturday arrested an alleged financer of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) along with Tk 30 lakh from a house at Baipail in Ashulia of Savar, UNB news agency reported.
According to a text message sent to journalists from the Rab headquarters, Abdur Rahman, the main financer of Ashulia JMB, was arrested along with Tk 30 lakh.It also said Rahman’s family members were also arrested by Rab members.
However, a Rab official, wishing anonymity, said a team of the Rab raided a five-storey building in the area in the afternoon acting on information that some militants are staying there.
Sensing presence of the Rab members, he said, Rahman jumped from the top floor of the building and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital.
The Rab officer said they later searched Rahman’s apartment in the building and recovered Tk 30 lakh, a firearm, explosive substances, jihadi books and mobile jammers from there, the UNB report said.
