Dhaka – BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah on Saturday said that the ruling Awami League has been carrying out a propaganda of militancy in the country and trying to put the blame on the BNP to implement its evil design.
“The government and the AL are involved in militancy propaganda to achieve its political gain, as they want to divert the attention of the people and the international forum ahead of the next parliamentary election. They are also involved in the propaganda as part of the conspiracy of home and abroad to make Bangladesh as a failed state,” he said at a seminar at the National Press Club in the city on Saturday.
Bangladesh Jatiya Manobadhikar Parishad arranged the seminar on ‘Militancy Propaganda by the Government: Intention and Reality” with its vice president and professor of Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University Dr Rafuqul Islam in the chair.
Journalist Ehsanul Haque Jasim presented a keynote paper at the seminar while president of Swadinata Forum Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah, BNP central leaders Khaleda Yeasmin and Advocate Abed Raza and coordinator of UK 18-party alliance Maulana Shoaib Ahmed took part in the discussion, among others.
Rafiqul Islam Miah asked the government to dissolve the Parliament by October 24. Mentioning the Article 123 (3) (b) of the Constitution, and said that the time between October 24 and January 24 is the time of the election.
In this time, he said, the parliament can’t run, but the government is hatching a new conspiracy to continue the Parliament violating the constitution.
The BNP leader warned that if the government does not dissolve the Parliament, the 18-party alliance would force the government to quit power. Saying the BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will launch a tougher movement after October 24, he urged the countrymen to remain active on the streets with the BNP chief.
