Milk prices on the rise in Rangpur district


Milk prices have soared in Rangpur due to its short supply in the local markets, causing sufferings to the common people.One kg of milk was being sold at Tk 45 in the district town in the recent past. But now the price ranges from Tk 60 to Tk 50, the locals said.Milkmen,however, attributed the high milk price to a fodder crisis. But, they are hopeful about overcoming the crisis after the harvest of Boro andThe people of the low-income group are the worst sufferers, as they depend on cow milk to feed their babies.Rafiq, a resident of Rangpur district town, said she used to buy a kg of milk everyday.But she cut it by a half because of the high milk price.Sweets shop owners have also raised prices of their products, as their spending on cow milk has gone up.Dulu Paul, owner of Nimtala Mistanna Bhander,said he raised prices of sweets as the total expenditure went up.
