Mir Quasem decion on presidential clemency after son returns


Dhaka-Death row top brass war criminal Mir Quasem Ali yesterday refused to take any decision on presidential clemency until and unless the return of his son Barrister Ahmed Bin Quasem, who was allegedly picked up by some unidentified persons on August 9 from his Mirpur DOHS residence.He told his family members that only after his return, Quasem will take his decision whether he will submit mercy petition to the president.
After meeting her husband inside the Kashimpur jail in Gazipur, Khandokar Ayesha Khatun, told these to the reporters.
As Barrister Ahmed Bin Quasem is not only his son, he is also his lawyer o, Mir Kashem can not take the big decision without consulting him whether he would submit the mercy petition to the president, she quoted her husband as saying.
According to Nasir Ahmed, jailer of Kashimpur Central jail-2, ten members of Mir Kashem’s family including his wife and two daughters Sumiya Rabeya and Tahera Tasnim, daughter-in -laws Shaheda Tahmida, Tahmina Akterm, son- in-law Md Hasan Zaman Khan and four children who were grandsons of the war criminal, entered the jail around 2:30pm and stayed there for an hour.
About the visit of his family members, jail authority told that they did not call the family members to come.
They themselves came and there is a tradition of meeting death condemned prisoner after the delivery verdict of the review petition, we allowed them to meet him.
Family members alleged that Ahmed Bin Quasem was picked up by some unidentified men from his Mirpur DOHS home in the capital around 10:50 at night on August 9.
Inspector Dadon Fakir, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station, said they have learnt about the incident from the media but no one lodged any written complain regarding the issue.
He however said, they were working on it.-Staff Reporter
