Modi’s notion of regional dev resenbles Zia’s – Dr. Moyeen Khan

BNP senior leader Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan on Monday claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s notion of regional development has the similarity with BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s concept of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc).
“Narendra Modi is now focusing on regional development. As the Prime Minister of India, he has been trying to bring the South Asian countries under a common platform. You shouldn’t forget Zia’ur Rahman had thought of forming the Saarc 35 years back. Now Narendra Modi is now trying to take India to a new height following the idea,” he said.
Moyeen Khan came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal marking Zia’s 34th death anniversary.Modi who came to Bangladesh on a two-day official visit on Saturday had a meeting with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday.
Moyeen lauded the Indian Prime Minister for his democratic values and practice. “Modi believes in democracy. He’s become the Prime Minister of India from the grassroots by practicing democracy. He’s realised that the regional development is necessary alongside the development of India. This idea has the similarity with that of Ziaur Rahman.
Moyeen Khan said Modi is trying to create a strong bondage among the South Asian countries. “We all should work together to make this effort fruitful. We’ll build people-to-people connection in this region.”
He also claimed that India has now realised that people to people friendly ties are very crucial than friendly relations between governments to governments as people truly represent a country. – UNB
