MPs’ attendence thin at ‘role of lawmakers ‘ workshop

Dhaka – The presence of ruling party lawmakers was thin on the second day of the three-day long workshop on ‘Lawmakers’ role in social media’ organized by Centre for Research and Information (CRI), a non-profit policy research organization of Bangladesh Awami League.Prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s son and her ICT affairs advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy on Sunday inaugurated the workshop with an aim to giving tips and necessary guidelines about optimum using of social media. The workshop was organized at the party chief Sheikh Hasina’s new political office at Dhanmondi in the city.
Though over fifty lawmakers was present on the first day of the three-day long workshop, but on the second day the presence of the MPs declined remarkably. According to the CRI at fifty ruling party lawmakers was supposed to present the workshop to take necessary tips and guidelines on using social media but about twenty seven members of parliament registered to join the workshop.
“At least 27 lawmakers were present on the second day of the workshop though we hoped over fifty MPs will be present in the programme,” CRI assistant coordinator Engineer Tonmoy Ahmed told The Independent yesterday.
“Our MPs remain busy in their daily activities but I think the presence of lawmakers will be increased in the third day of the workshop,” he said.
As the prime minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy and ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP were absent on the second day, may be this was the reason for the thin presence of MPs in the programme, insiders said.
Meanwhile, inaugurating the workshop on Sunday, Joy gave necessary tips and guidelines to the party lawmakers on how to set up connections with people across the country and of the remote areas using social media.
He had also called upon the parliament members of Awami League to be active in social media to highlight development activities done by the Sheikh Hasina government and to post again and again the development activities on page of social media so that our young generation would not take wrong decision in the next polls. – Dhaka
