MP’s son Rony on fresh remand


A Dhaka court on Sunday fixed June 30 to hear on a petition to place Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony on a 7-day fresh remand.
Magistrate Aminul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka set the date after Detective Branch (DB) Sub-Inspector Dipak Kumar Das and also the Investigation Officer of the case, lodged the petition with the CMM court on Sunday seeking fresh remand once again.The third remand plea was lodged after the second-spell of the four-day remand ended Sunday. Rony was earlier quizzed for four days in police custody.
On April 13, Rony, who allegedly in a drunken situation, opened fire indiscriminately from his pistol near Dilu Road in the city leaving two people injured. The victims were rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and the Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub. Hakim had succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 while Yakub also died on April 23. Hakim’s mother Monowara Begum filed the murder case with Ramna Model Police Station on April 15.
Rony’s friends Kamal Mahmud, Tiger Kamal and Md Jahangir Hossain were with him on the car during the incident and a Dhaka court recorded their judicial depositions about the incident on June 17 and 18. Driver of the Prado jeep, Imran Fakir made confessional statement on June 1 and Rony was arrested following his information.
According to the statements, Rony had allegedly fired four to five bullets at people as his vehicle got stuck in a tailback at New Eskaton around 1.45 am, on the eve of the Pohela Boishakh. – Special Sepresentative
