Nahid seeks support of ACC to combat corruption in education sector


Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday sought cooperation of Anti-corruption commission (ACC) to eradicate corruption and all sorts of irregularities from the education sector.“The Education Ministry and ACC can jointly work to fight all kinds of corruption and malpractices including question paper leakage,” he told a meeting with ACC at his ministry here, an official release said yesterday.
Acting Chairman of ACC Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed handed over an investigation report on education to Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
Secretary of Technical and Madrasah Education Division Md Alamgir,
Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education DR SM Wahiduzzaman, senior officials and heads of different relevant organizations, among others, were present at the meeting.
The education minister said “We will not be able to create skilled
workforces through traditional higher education system. So, we need to change the traditional higher education system.”
Nahid said new generation must be prepared with modern education
alongside developing high moral values and sense of patriotism to build a prosperous country, added.
He said the main objective of our education should be preparing students with new knowledge and updated version of technology to build a modern Bangladesh.
Nahid said, “We always encourage collaboration with different public and private bodies to build effective partnership to accomplish the journey of quality education.
Nasiruddin said the commission is working to supplement the efforts of eliminating corruption in the education. “The commission was given legal mandate to investigate the sources of corruption and it will take necessary measures to take action against any sort of unfair practices,” he added.
A team related to education was formed aiming to find out root causes of corruption and take proper action to stop all sorts of malpractices in the education sector, he added, reports BSS.
