Speakers at a discussion today stressed the need for a children-friendly budget considering the children as the future of the country.
They said the authorities concern should seek opinion from the children before the implementation of the upcoming budget as about 37.7 percent of the total population are children in our country.
Taking part in a discussion on “Jatiya Budget 2014-2015: Implementation of Government Sponsored Children’s Budget”, they said the government must ensure proper support, protection providing opportunities for the children.
National Children Taskforce (NCTF) and Child Budget Forum (CBF) jointly organized the programme at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity in the capital today with CBF Chairman Dr Abul Hossen was in the chair.
Child rights activist Rajia Kajol, MP, Dhaka University Professor Gawhor Naim Wara, senior programme manager Chowdhury Taiuf Tajammul Rana and NCTF activist Tanjila Sumi, among others, spoke on the occasion.
They said the government should give priority to ensure health, nutrition and social security to all children in the next budget, they added.
The participants urged the government to take pragmatic policy, effective work plan and necessary budgetary allocation for the children.
