Newborn bullet hit in womb taken to intensive care unit

The newborn, who was shot inside the womb of its mother allegedly by Jubo League men in Magura, was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday.
The baby boy was taken to the ICU around 11:30pm to protect him from infection, Associate Professor of the Paediatric Surgery Department Dr Kaniz Hasina Sheuli told journalists. A seven-month expecting mother, Nazma Begum, 30, among three people suffered bullet injuries as she was caught in the line of fire during a clash between two groups of Jubo League activists over establishing supremacy at Doarpara in Magura sadar upazila on the evening of July 23.
Nazma was taken to Sadar Hospital where she gave birth to a baby through caesarean section on that night. It was found after the birth that the newborn also suffered bullet wounds while in the womb.
Later, the baby was admitted to the DMCH on July 25 while the mother was undergoing treatment at Magura Sadar Hospital.
On July 28, the DMCH authorities formed an eight-member medical team for the proper treatment of the newborn.- UNB
