Dhaka-The Third Special Judge Court of Dhaka on Thursday recorded the cross-examinations of two more witnesses and depositions of two other witnesses in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case filed against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and five others.Later, Judge Abu Ahmed Jamader of the court fixed July 21 to record the depositions of other witnesses of the case. Meanwhile, Khaleda Zia could not appear to the makeshift court, set up at the Aliya Madrasa ground of Bokshibazaar area in old Dhaka due to her illness. Her lawyer sought time citing his client’s illness.
The defence lawyers cross-examined witnesses Alfa Sani and Mokhlesur Rahman, who are Administrative Officers at the Prime Minister’s Office. Veteran lawyer Abdur Razzak Khan cross-examined the witnesses on behalf of Khaleda Zia while Advocate Borhan Uddin cross-examined on behalf of Tareque Rahman. Later, Sonali Bank’s retired Principal Officer Hossain and retired Deputy General Manager Mohiuddin Ahmed testified in the court on Thursday.
On July 3, 2008, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the graft case with Ramna Model Police Station against the six accusing them of misappropriating over Tk 2.10 core, which came as grant from a foreign bank for orphans.
Other four accused persons are former BNP lawmaker Kazi Salimul Haque, businessperson Sharfuddin Ahmed, Khaleda Zia’s former Principal Secretary Kamal Uddin Siddiqui and former President Ziaur Rahman’s nephew Momenur Rahman. -Court Correspondent
