Hundreds of patient suffered a lot due to the work abstention enforced by the interns of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the city.
The interns organised the work abstention which begun around 12:pm and ended around 2:pm in protest of salary discrimination.Rumi Akter, mother of two years old Rani Akter, came with her burn injured daughter from city’s outskirts Savar yesterday morning.
But till 1:30 pm, no doctors came to see the ailing baby who was madly crying for her burn injuries on her body.
Shamsun Nahar Popy,a house wife, hailing from Munshiganj ,came to the hospital with her pregnancy complexities. She waited more than an hour for doctors at the outdoor department of the hospital. No one came to provide any treatment to her.
While talking to the reporters, she said,‘‘Since the ticket counter is also closed, I don’t understand whether I would be treated, or have to leave for a private hospital.”
But we are poor people, how shall I afford the cost if I shall have to admit into private clinic, she said with emotional tone.
DMCH Brig General Mizanur Rahman said,‘‘ Since the intern doctors have some demands, they were organizing work abstention .’’
But we are taking measures so that patients suffer due to the agitation of the interns, he added.
According to the DMCH officials, intern doctors play a very vital role as there are physicians shortage in the DMCH. – Staff Reporter
