People remaining united can achieve the impossible: Dr Kamal

Dhaka, May 25 – Jatiya Oikya Front top leader Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday called upon all to remain united to establish democracy in the country.
“I will urge you to remain united. We will ensure pure democracy, effective democracy and fundamental rights of the people by upholding the Constitution. Insha Allah we will do it,” he said while speaking at an iftar mahfil organized by Nagorik Oikya, an ally of the Oikya Front.
Dr Kamal, also president of Gono Forum, a major partner of the Oikya Front, said the country would be run by elected representatives.
“Those who gain the majority in parliament will run the country by upholding the Constitution. They have the responsibility to maintain the pledges of the Constitutions,” he said.
The veteran politician said let the country be run in accordance with the Constitution and let the real democracy prevail here in the country, he said.
He mentioned multiparty democracy has been laid down in the constitution and it would remain and said all should remain united on the fundamental issues.
There might be a difference of opinion and there should not be disagreement that the people are the owners of power. If we do not abide by it there will be no independence, he said.
Speaking at the meeting, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the present government does not represent the people of the country rather they grabbed the power forcibly.
Nagorik Oikya convenor Mahmudur Rahman Manna, who presided over the meeting, said the government has established an economy of plunder in the country.
The Iftar mahfil, held at Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium, was addressed, among others, by Mostafa Mohsin Montu, Subrata Chowdhury, Abdus Salam, Abdul Malek Ratan, Saiful Haque, Habibur Rahman Talukder and Prof Asif Nazrul. – UNB
