Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally invite BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for a dialogue any moment, Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu has said.
This scotches speculations about whether the arch rivals will ever get to sit face-to-face to pave the way for a peaceful and inclusive elections.
“The Prime Minister will directly invite the opposition leader Khaleda Zia for a dialogue any day” Inu told media persons after attending a workshop at a Gulshan Hotel on Friday.
He said both parties were into ‘official and unofficial’ talks at the same time.
But he did not provide details, specially what he meant by ‘unofficial talks’, though that alluded to ongoing backroom negotiations through mediators.
It was also not clear whether Hasina’s decision to invite Khaleda Zia was a result of such ‘unofficial talks’ and whether any foreign diplomats were involved in the rumoured mediation.
Inu criticised Khaleda Zia’s statement terming the government ‘illegal’ from Friday as ‘unconstitutional’
and demanded that she retracts the statement.-bdnews24.com
