Police now engaged in terrorism, alleged Mirza Fakhrul

Dhaka – Terming the death of a tea-seller from a kerosene stove blast reportedly caused by members of police ‘inhuman and barbaric’, BNP on Thursday alleged that the police force itself is now engaged in terrorism.
In a statement, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “People are frightened by the heinous, ruthless and daring terrorist activities of the Awami misrule.”Mirpur tea-seller Babul Mattabbar, 45, suffered 95% burn injuries as a policeman allegedly hit out and knocked over his kerosene stove when he refused to pay a bribe on Wednesday night. The stove exploded instantly and his body caught fire. He succumbed to his burn injuries at the DMCH on Thursday afternoon.
Condemning the incident, Fakhrul said, “Police themselves are now indulging in terror activities, and it has been proven once again by the killing of Babul Mattabbar.”
He additionally alleged that the police are now involved in evil activities like extortion instead of carrying out their responsibility to maintain law and order.
The BNP leader said that repressive and heinous acts by police are pushing the country towards a state of extreme anarchy.
He demanded legal action be taken against the policemen involved in the ‘attack and murder’ of Babul Mattabbar, as well as exemplary punishment for them.- UNB
