The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka again rejected a bail petition of Rakibul Islam Mukul, sacked news editor of private television channel GTV yesterday, in a case filed for torturing his wife.
Magistrate Meher Nigar Shuchona of the CMM Court passed the order in presence of the complainant Nazneen Akhter Tanni, after hearing the bail petition on Sunday morning.
On June 25, Mukul’s wife Nazneen, a senior reporter of the Janakantha, filed the case against her husband and Meherun Binte Ferdous Sithi, known to be a lover of Mukul, on the charge of torture and claiming dowry from her.According to the case statement, Nazneen jumped off the fourth floor of her residential building after hearing the news of the death of her only daughter Chandramukhi on September, 16, 2013. The death had socked her extremely. She was under treatment at a city hospital for several months for the treatment of serious injuries. Meanwhile, her husband and Meherun, a private bank official allegedly developed extramarital relationship. Later, Mukul began torturing his wife and it became worse after Nazneen became pregnant for the second time.
On June 26, police arrested Mukul from the capital’s Segunbagicha area and the next day, a Dhaka court put him on a one-day remand. Later, a Dhaka court sent him to the jail on June 28. Meanwhile, on July 2, Meherun surrendered to the CMM Court in the case while the court granted her bail after a few days. – Special Correspondent
