Dhaka – The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is probing 24 more war crimes cases from across the country.
“We have concluded probing 37 cases so far. Of these, the two tribunals (one is now defunct) have pronounced judgments in 22 cases.
Proceedings of four cases are now nearing the end,” said Sanaul Haque, senior investigator of the ICT probe body.
Meanwhile, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court till now pronounced its verdict on appeals in seven war crimes cases. Of these, four convicts Abdul Quader Mollah, Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury have been executed.
The Appellate Division on March 15, released the final verdict on an appeal filed by Jamaat ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami against the ICT-1 judgment that sentenced him to death for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.
According to the Apex Court sources, eight more cases are waiting their turn to be heard in the Appellate Division. – BSS
