CHITTAGONG – The authorities of Premier University(PU), Chittagong expelled 16 students and suspended seven others for their alleged involvement in the murder of Nasim Ahmed Sohel.Business Faculty student Sohel, an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League, was killed on March 29. MBA student Sohel, a deputy secretary at Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Chittagong city unit, was stabbed to death during the scuffle with rivals on the university campus on Mar 29.”We have taken the decision for their alleged link with the murder,” Ahmed Rajib Chowdhury, proctor of the university, told agences.
Of the 16, two are former students of the university, the proctor said.The proctorial body took the decision yesterday on the basis of an investigation report and video footage of the killing which is submitted to the university authority on April 3.Besides, the authorities issued showcase notices to the seven others students, who were suspended, asking them to answer why they should not be expelled from the university. All of the expelled students have been accused in the police case initiated by Sohel’s family.Abu Taher, father of the slain student initiated the murder case with Chawkbazar police a day later against 16 persons, including Sohel’s friend Mohammad Ibrahim Sohan, all students of the university.Police said they had identified, from CCTV footage, the youth who fatally stabbed Sohel during the clash.(BSS)
