Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad yesterday said he wanted to make his wife Raushan Ershad as party co-chairman but she has become older.“Raushan is now 76 years old and she will be 79 after three years when the next elections will take place. That’s why I did not do it,” he said while addressing an installation programme in honour of newly appointed secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader at party’s Banani office.
His comments came following JP leadership controversy centering appointing GM Quader as party co-chairman.
The former president said GM Quader was appointed as party co-chairman considering his young age.
He described the past secretary general Zaiuddin Ahmed Bablu as selfish.
“I have dropped him from the post of party general secretary as he announced my wife as party acting chairman without her consent and beyond my decision,” he said.
Ershad said he would accept the decision of party next council scheduled to be held in April.
“If the party leaders want me to quit the post of chairman, I will not stay in the post further,” he said.
