The Rajshahi University Teachers Association (RUTA) has continued their movement in protest against what they termed as devaluation of university teachers in proposed national pay-scale and demanded the declaration of seperate pay-scale for university teachers.
The teachers observed a three-hour work abstention on Sunday from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm in front of the university Senate building. They also took part in a sit-in-strike and mass-signature campaign this time.
RUTA President Professor Dr Ananda Kumar Shaha presided over the programme while Secretary Dr Rezaul Karim Badal moderated it. Professor Arun Kumar Bosak, Professor S M Shafiuzzaman of Environmental Science institute, Professor Ifthekharul Alam Masud of Arabic department and many others spoke at the programme.
RUTA Demanded same pay scale of University teachers and Secreteries of Bangladesh government, restoration of the time-scale and selection grade, allowance for upgrading the rank of vice chancellor same to the rank of Principal Secretary or Cabinet division secretary, determination of salary structure of associate professor, assistant professor and lecturer with guarantee of their status and reasonable pay-scale.
They alleged that government secretaries are devaluating the teachers’s status and have already downgraded them by two step intentionally.
They urged the government to repeal the quotation “public universities should be financially self-reliant and reducing dependence on government allocation” that has been put in the report of the Pay and Service Commission in 2013.
The Teachers also say, they would continue the movement till their demands are met.
