Sohel confesses to involvement in Gulshan Café attack


Dhaka – Sohel Mashfuz arrested from Chapainawabganj, a “Neo JMB” militant on Sunday made a confessional statement before a Dhaka court admitting his involvement in supplying bombs for July 1 Dhaka cafe attack.Sohel told the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court that he hand-made some bombs and collected some more from India and supplied them to Holey Artisan attackers.
Magistrate Ahsan Habib of the CMM Court recorded his confessional statement for over three hours and then passed order to sent Sohel Mahfuz to the jail. While making the confession he said that he was not present during the attack.
Twenty hostages, mostly foreigners, and two policemen were killed in the attack in an upscale eatery in the capital’s Gulshan diplomatic zone. The siege and carnage were eventually put to an end by the army after 18 hours.
Sohel Mahfuz was reportedly an explosive expert and the supplier of bombs in the Holey Artisan cafe attack last year. He was arrested from Chapainawabganj’s Shibganj on July 8. – Special Correspondent
