Dhaka – South Africa crushed Bangladesh by an innings and 254 runs in Bloemfontein after a 333-run victory in the Potchefstroom Test to hand the visitors a 2-0 clean sweep in the series.The 2nd match of the series ended at Mangaung Oval on Sunday before the 3rd session of the 3rd day’s play where Bangladesh resumed the 2nd innings with overnight score of 7/0 in 1.2 overs and finished at 172/10 in 42.4 overs.In reply to South Africa’s 573/4-d in the 1st innings, Bangladesh finished their 1st innings on 147/10 in 42.5 overs that forced them to follow-on on the 2nd day.On the 3rd day Mahmudullah Riyad (43), opener Imrul Kayes (32), skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (26), Liton Kumar Das (18), Subashis Roy (12*) and Mominul Haque (11) were the double figure scorers for Bangladesh.Man of the match Kagiso Rabada’s 2nd successive five-for (5/30 and 5/33 in the 2nd and 1st innings) squeezed Bangladesh’s 2nd innings when the visitors were trailing by 419 runs with 10 wickets in hand on the day.Andile Phehlukwayo 3/36, Wayne Parnell 1/31 and Duanne Olivier 1/39 did the remaining job vanishing Bangladesh’s batting strength in the 2nd innings.Dean Elgar who hit back to back centuries in the series with 199 and 113 runs in the 1st and 2nd Test — among six centuries in the series for the Proteas, was adjudged player of the series. After this match result, Bangladesh drew in two games at home against the Proteas and lost in 10 Test occasions, including this 5th defeat by an innings on South African soil.After this series result both sides’ rankings in the Test list remained unchanged, but the 9th ranked Bangladesh lost 2 rating points from 74 while the 2nd slot holders South Africa add one more rating point with their previous 110 points.Bangladesh will play a three-match ODI series against hosts South Africa on October 15, 18 and 22. The 1st ODI will be held at De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberley while the 2nd and 3rd ODIs at Boland Park and Buffalo Park respectively.
