A daylong Basanta Utsab (Spring Festival) was held at Teachers-Students Center (TCS) premises in Dhaka University (DU) campus on Thursday.
DU Pro Vice-chancellor (Education) Prof Nasreen Ahmad inaugurated the programme titled “Dhaka University Basanta Utsab 1424” organised by Dhaka University Cultural society (DUCS) for the second time. The First Basanta Utsab was held in 2016.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak was presented as the chief guest and theatre activists Ananta Hira and Nuna Afroze were awarded for their significant contributions to the cultural sector.
The festival was divided in two sessions as opening session and second session. A colourful rally was held in the opening session while various cultural performances, including puthi path, musical drama on the creation of Rabindranath Tagore, tribal dance, puppet dance and jatra were presented by the university students in the second session.Besides, prominent music bands Joler Gaan and Gaan Kabi also performed at the event.
Along with cultural performances, a village fair with the flavour of our local culture like nagardola, bioscope, monkey show, cock fight, balloon shooting, Bengali food, handicrafts, potteries were also presented at the festival. The daylong festival which began at 10am and continued till 9pm was open for all.
