SSC exams to be on despite CPB-BSD Hartal Tuesday


Dhaka – Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations would be held amid the half day long hartal in the capital imposed by the left leaning political parties and organisations protesting the government’s announcement to hike the gas price.The biology (theory) and economics examinations would be held under the eight general education board starting from 10am to 1pm while the civics, civics and citizenship, agriculture, home economics, Urdu, Farsi, computer education examinations would be held under the Madrasa education board at the same time.
Chairman of secondary and higher secondary education board, Dhaka Prof Mahbubur Rahman told journalists that the SSC examinations would be held as per routine as the hartal has been kept the out of the purview the examinations.
“The exams would be held as per routine. Those who have imposed the hartal have announced that the examinations would be out of the hartal,” he added.
Nine left-leaning parties including Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BASAD) have imposed the half-day long hartal starting from 6am to 12pm protesting the government’s announcement to hike the gas price.
CPB president Mujahidul Islam Selim and BSD general secretary Kalequzzaman on Friday announced the hartal through a joint statement saying the government’s announcement to increase gas price is anti-people.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh National Awami Party chairman Jebel Rahman Gani and its secretary general M Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan urged the city dwellers to observe the hartal as a people’s demand.
The leaders said the government has announced the price hike of gas though all the distribution companies are in the profit. They alleged that the current Awami League government has increased the gas price for five times.
They said the increase of gas price would ultimately affect the common people and in all sectors.
They urged the government to immediately withdraw its decision of price hike.
Several other political parties including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and organisations have supported the hartal.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday threw its support behind the strike protesting the gas price hike. – Staff Reporter
