Stay in khaleda’s coalmine case extended by six months

The High Court has extended its stay order on the Barapukuria coal mine graft case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The bench of Justice Md. Nuruzzaman and Justice Zafar Ahmed gave the order, extending the stay by six months on Thursday. The order, which halted the proceedings of the case, was extended following a plea by Khaleda’s lawyers.
The verdict of the case, scheduled on Sunday, was, however, not delivered after her lawyers urged the chief justice to change the bench.
The judges then referred it, along with the Gatco and Niko graft cases, to the chief justice for the ‘next order’
On Thursday, the BNP chief’s counsel Mahbub Uddinh Khokon filed a plea to extend the stay order, which the court granted.
