Sylhet blogger hacked to death


Assailants have hacked to death blogger Ananta Bijoy Das in Sylhet on Tuesday, according to a report received in Dhaka.
Das was an activist of the Ganajagaran Manch, that was set up after Jamaat leader Quader Mollah was awarded imprisonment for life in cromes against humanity case and demanded death pernalty against him.
Ananta Bijoy Das used to blog on ‘Mukto Mona’, a website that was started by Avijit Roy, a naturalised US citizen who was killed in the same fashion in February in Dhaka.Roy was also hacked to death Dhaka University’s TSC intersection after he came out of the Ekushey Book Fair with his wife.
Sylhet Airport Police Station OC Gausul Hossain said the murder took place at Bankalaparha on Tuesday morning.
“Four armed assailants attacked him when he was going to the town in a rickshaw,” Hossain said.
Das was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Several bloggers have been killed in the same fashion.
Earlier this month, al-Qaeda’s India claimed responsibilities for the killings of bloggers blamed as ‘blasphemers’.
