Dhaka – State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid on Saturday said most of those who have been opposing Rampal power plant project are linked with Jamaat and Shibir, UNB news agency reported.
“We’ve analysed their backgrounds…most of them have been found linked with Jamaat-Shibir,” he told a roundtable discussion on Rampal at a city hotel.
Shuchinta Foundation, a pro-Awami League social organization, organised the programme with its head Mohammad A Arafat in the chair.
The junior minister said it will be a big breakthrough for the government as soon as the Rampal power plant is implemented. “Those opposing it now will continue to do so for political reasons,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Ijaz Hossain of BUET said the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) was done with gross flaws as it did not cover many areas of possible damages of the Sundarbans by the Rampal project.
“The government should have done the EIA with foreign experts,” he observed.
The programme was also addressed by Dr Ashiqur Rahman, Dr Ansarul Karim, Dr Bayezid Kabir and Air Commodore (retd) Ishfak Elahi Chowdhury.
