Dhaka – Bangladesh were trailing by 166 runs with six wickets in hand as they scored 56 for 4 in 22 overs in the first innings on the first day of the series-deciding Mirpur Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.The Tigers opened the 1st innings in the 3rd session of the day replying to Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 222 runs and faced an early jolt losing top three wickets — Tamin Iqbal, Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim — for 12 runs in nine overs.Imrul Kayes (19 off 55b; 3×4) was trapped lbw by Dilruwan Perera on 45/4 in 19.5 overs while Suranga Lakmal dismissed two wickets — opener Tamim Iqbal (4) and Mushfiqur Rahim (1) on 4/1 in 0.3 overs and 12/3 in 9 overs.Chittagong Test hero Mominul Haque was run out with duck at 4/2 in 1.3 overs.Liton Kumar Das (24* off 43b; 3×4) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (5 off 7b; 1×4) were at the crease in the 5th wicket stand when the bails were drawn for the first day.Suranga Lakmal conceded 15 runs for two wickets for Sri Lanka while Dilruwan Perera 26 for one wicket.Earlier, Bangladesh’s spin strength dismissed visiting Sri Lanka for 222 runs in 65.3 overs in the middle of the 1st day’s 3rd session in the 1st innings of the decider. In Sri Lanka’s 1st innings, Tigers’ veteran left-handed spinner Abdur Razzak got four wickets on his Test return for the national side after over a four-year break and another left-arm spinner Taijul Islam dismissed identical four wickets while cutter master Mustafizur Rahman got the remaining two wickets.Sri Lanka opened the 1st innings with bat after winning the toss and equally lost eight wickets in the first two sessions while the rest two wickets in the 3rd session.The visitors scored 105 off 31 overs in the first session while 100 off 26.1 overs in the second session before ending the innings in the middle of the 3rd session adding 17 runs more off 8.2 overs.Kusal Mendis (68 off 98b; 10×4; 1×6) and Roshen Silva (56 off 124b; 3×4; 1×6) hammered a half century each to be the big hitters for Sri Lanka while Dilruwan Perera (31 off 55b; 4×4), debut Akila Dananjaya (20 off 26b; 2×4), Dhananjaya de Silva (19 off 30b; 2×4; 1×6) and Danushka Gunathilaka (13 off 26b; 2×4) were the other double digit scorers for the side.On his way to 4/63 in 16 overs, Razzak got Sri Lankan opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne caught behind by Liton Kumar Das in his 1st ball of the 3rd over for the Tigers’ 1st breakthrough on 14/1 in 5.1 overs.Razzak got two successive wickets – sending off Danushka Gunathilaka caught by Mushfiqur Rahim and bowling out skipper Dinesh Chandimal with duck — in his 1st and 2nd balls of the 11th over when Sri Lanka collected 96/4 in 27.2 overs. He bowled out opener Kusal Mendis on 109/5 in 31.2 overs.Taijul Islam, who also took 4 wickets for 83 runs in 25.3 overs, blew the final whistle dismissing Roshen Silva caught behind by Liton Kumar Das.He grabbed Dhananjaya de Silva caught by Sabbir Rahman on 61/2 in 16.3 overs before bowling out Niroshan Dickwella and dismissing Dilruwan Perera caught by Mominul Haque on 110/6 in 32.1 overs and 162/7 in 48.3 overs respectively.Cutter master Mustafizur Rahman got debutant Akila Dananjaya caught by Mushfiqur Rahim at tea break on 205/8 in 57.1 overs to open his account in the match and then again Mustafiz-Mushfiq combination got Rangana Herath on 207/9 in 59.1 overs. He bagged two wickets for economic 17 runs in 11 overs.
