Two days of mourning for Dhaka terror attack victim

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced two days of national mourning for the victims of Bangladesh’s worst-ever hostage crisis.
At least 20 hostages, mostly foreigners, were found dead inside an upscale Dhaka cafe after commandos took out six gunmen to put an end to an overnight siege. “What do you want to achieve by killing innocents? Islam is a religion of peace. Do not taint our religion with your hateful acts,” she said in a televised address to the nation on Saturday evening.
The national flag will be lowered at half mast on Sunday and Monday, said a government handout.
Hasina remembered the two policemen who were killed after the attackers, who shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’, threw grenades at them in an early exchange of gunfire when the siege had begun.
The prime minister sympathised with the families of Banani Police Station OC Md Salauddin and Detective Branch Assistant Commissioner Robiul Islam.
She also wished the persons injured in the attack a quick recovery.
