U-23 cricketers off to Pakistan to take part in Emerging Cup

Dhaka – A 15-member Bangladesh U-23 Cricket team left here for Pakistan on Monday afternoon to take part in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Emerging Teams Asia Cup beginning in Karachi on December 6.A total of eight teams split into two groups will initially taking part in the tournament with India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Oman putting in Group A and Bangladesh, Pakistan, the UAE and Hong Kong in Group B.

The Group A matches will be held in Sri Lanka from December 7-10 while that of Group B in Pakistan.On completion of group matches, co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka, top two teams from each of the group, will play in the semifinal on December 13 while the final is scheduled for December 15, all in Sri Lanka.

Earlier on November 29, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 15-member Bangladesh emerging team with national coloured wicketkeeper Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan named as captain and Mosaddek Hossain Saikat as vice-captain.

Former national captain Khaled Masud Pilot also accompanied the Pakistan-bound team as manager.Bangladesh will play the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on December 6 at Karachi South End ground, meet Hong King the next day at the same venue and face Pakistan on December 9 at Karachi National Stadium.

Before leaving for Pakistan, Pilot said, “This is my first assignment as the manger at this level. As far as I know, a good and high-level security will be provided for the participating teams in Pakistan. I hope there’ll be no untoward incident there.”
