“We’ve already identified them” says DMP regarding Tavella killing


Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Sunday said investigators have already identified the masterminds behind the killing of Italian citizen Cesare Tavella.
“We’ve already identified them…Now we’re waiting for evidence against them,” he told reporters declining to elaborate for the sake of proper investigation.

The DMP Commissioner was briefing the journalists at DMP Media centre on security arrangements for ensuring smooth observance of holy Ashura and celebrations of Durga Puja.

Italian national Cesare Tavella was gunned down in the city’s Gulshan area on September 28.

The DMP Commissioner also said so far they have not found any militant involvement in the killing. “No involvement of militant group has been found yet…the incident of Tavella killing is a planned one,” the DMP Commissioner added.

He said they have achieved a marked progress in the investigation into the killing case. “We’re vigorously working on it,” he added.

The DMP Commissioner urged the city dwellers to keep confidence in their drive.

Asked how much time will be required to complete the investigation, Asaduzzaman said it is not possible to complete any investigation within the given time. “We can’t tell you the time. Please, have confidence in us …our detectives have been working on it,” he added.

About speculation that some political leaders and activists to be harassed in connection with Tavella killing, the DMP Commissioner said,
“We’ve no intention to harass anybody…We work on the basis of specific information and evidence.”

About fresh security alert issued by the US Embassy in Dhaka on Saturday for its citizens, the DMP top officer said it is their [US] routine work to regularly issue such travel alert for their citizens. Even they issue such travel alert for their citizens while traveling to Pakistan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, he added.

“We’ve already intensified security,y not only for foreigners, but also for important personalities as well as city dwellers,” he said.-News Desk
