WiMAX operators have been losing out since more people are using internet on their mobile phones Wireless broadband operators have lost more than one third of their customers in one year, says a report released by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Sunday.The fact was revealed after analysing the number of internet users by six mobile-phone operators in the BTRC report for April.Bangladesh’s two WiMAX operator – Banglalion and Qubee – now have 198,000 users combined, but had 296,000 just a year ago.But, the number of people using internet on mobile has jumped by a staggering 8.6 million to 44.2 million.Broadband users, however, are only up by 37,000.Overall, internet users have increased by 1.1 million to reach 45.6 million in April. The figure was 44.6 million at the end of March.Among Bangladesh’s mobile operators, Citycell has continued losing users, a total of 16,000 customers from March to April.It now has a little more than 1.2 million users.The number of Airtel users has increased by 200,000 to reach around 8.3 million. Grameenphone remains on top, adding 300,000 users to reach 52.3 million altogether.Banglalink got another 100,000 users to reach 32 million. Robi drew 400,000 users to take the figure to 26.6 million.State-owned operator Teletalk has 55,000 more users to have 4.096 million in total.Mobile-phone users have increased by 1.1 million to reach 124.7 million.
