Four people, including the driver, were killed after a private car crashed into a truck carrying gas cylinders on the Dhaka–Bhanga Expressway in Faridpur’s Bhanga upazila early Tuesday.

The accident occurred around 3:45am in the Maligram area. The identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately.

According to police and local sources, the private car was travelling towards Bhanga when it reportedly lost control and rammed into the rear of the truck moving ahead on the expressway. The impact left the vehicle badly mangled and critically injured all six passengers onboard.

After receiving information, highway police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene, rescued the injured and took them to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.

Doctors declared four of the injured dead upon arrival, including the driver and three passengers. The deceased comprised two men and two women.

Officer-in-Charge Md Mizanur Rahman of Shibchar Highway Police Station confirmed the incident, saying both the truck and the damaged private car had been taken into police custody.

Legal action over the incident is underway, he added.
