A passenger of a CNG-run three-wheeler Laguna was killed and another injured after the vehicle crashed into a covered van parked on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Siddhirganj of the  district.

The accident occurred early Friday on the Dhaka-bound lane of the highway in the Sanarpar area.

The deceased was identified as Shahadat Hossain, 35. Police said his detailed identity could not be ascertained while the identity of the injured passenger is also yet to be confirmed.

Julhas Uddin, in-charge of the Highway Police’s Shimrail Camp, told BSS that the speeding Laguna rammed into the rear of a covered van that was parked beside the highway.

Two passengers sitting at the front of the Laguna were seriously injured in the crash. Shahadat Hossain died at the scene, while the other injured passenger was rescued and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Julhas said both the Laguna and the covered van have been seized. However, the Laguna driver fled immediately after the accident, reports BSS.

Efforts are underway to identify and locate the fleeing driver, and legal proceedings in connection with the incident are ongoing, he said.
