Four women die in Sreemangal hill collapse

At least four women tea workers have died after a hill collapsed on them in Sreemangal of Moulvibazar on Friday.



At least four women tea workers have died after a hill collapsed on them in Sreemangal of Moulvibazar on Friday (August 19).

The incident took place around 11.30am at Lakhaichara tea garden under the upazila’s Kalighat Union.

Chairman of Kalighat Union Parishad Pranesh Goala confirmed the news.

The deceased are Hiramoni Bhumij, 30, Purnima Bhumij, 28, Radha Mahali, 40, and Shakuntala Bhumij, 40.

Pranesh Goala said a hill collapsed on them when they were collecting mud, leaving them dead on the spot.

Policemen and fire service men rushed to the spot and rescued them. The dead bodies have been sent to a local hospital, he added.
