A couple was burned to death in a fire that broke out at their flat in Konabari area in the city Saturday.



 A couple was burned to death in a fire that broke out at their flat in Konabari area in the city Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Sufian Rahman, 40, and his wife Nasrin Akhter, 36, residents of Dimla police station of Nilphamari district.

Among them, Nasrin Akhtar worked in a local garment factory and her husband worked as a mason in a contracting firm.

The fire broke out on the ground floor of the six-storey building at the house of Shukur Shikdar in Sikder Para area of Konabari Police Station of the metropolis in the early hours today, officer-in-charge (OC) of Konabari Police Station K M Ashraf Uddin said.

Being informed, the police rushed to the spot and broke the door and saw the bodies of the wife and husband lying on the floor of the bed.

Later, their bodies were recovered and sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. However, the police could not confirm when and how the fire broke out.

Assistant Deputy Director of Gazipur Fire Service, Abdullah Al Arifin said, necessary measures will be taken after investigating whether.
