College student killed in Dhaka's Tejgaon as train hits him

A college student was killed after a train hit him at a railway crossing in the capital's Tejgaon on Wednesday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Sayeed Abdullah, 20, who sat for the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam 2022 as a student of Government Science College. He was a converted Muslim who lived in a mess in the Tejgaon area, reports UNB.

The accident occurred at 11am as Abdullah, son of Bidhu Kumar Sheel and Maya Rani Sheel of village Hotalia Para of Cox's Bazar's Chakoria, was trying to cross Tejgaon Rail Gate railway crossing while talking on his mobile phone, Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamrul Hasan of Dhaka Railway Police Station said.

Abdullah died at the scene, the SI added. "The body was kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue after autopsy."
