Three other employees have been injured in this connection.
The accident took place around 8am on Sunday (January 22) at Chandra area in the upazila.
Agitated workers set fire on the truck and vandalised around 50 vehicles there, halting vehicular movement on the highway.
The deceased was identified as Azadul Haque, 40, son of Arab Ali from Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha. He worked as a security guard at ‘Mahmud Jeans’.
Police and employees of the factory said the accident took place when Azadul and some other employees of the factory were going to their workplace in the area. Suddenly, a speeding truck ran over them, leaving Azadul dead on the spot.
Angered, a group of workers torched the truck and vandalised over 50 vehicles on the road. But the truck driver managed to flee. They also took position on the highway.
Confirming the incident, Konabari Highway Police Statin’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atiqul Islam said they are trying to remove the workers from the road to normalise the vehicular movement.
