A lighter ship ‘MV Shahjalal Express’ carrying 500 metric tonnes of fertiliser capsized near the Mongla port channel of the River Pasur on Tuesday midnight.
At this time, 8 crew members of the ship were able to swim to the next ship.
According to sources, a Liberian flagship ‘MV Vita Olympic’ hit MV Shahjalal Express around 12.30am at Harbaria-9 of the port, causing the capsize.
The ship left for Jashore’s Noapara to release the goods.
Harbor Master of Mongla Port Authority Captain Mohammad Shaheen Majid said the incident did not disrupt the movement of other water vessels at the port.
