Mymensingh road crash leaves seven dead

A road accident on Dhaka- Mymensingh road leaves seven dead.



Mymensingh, Oct 16 : A speeding truck rammed into a stationary passenger-packed bus from behind on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Saturday, leaving at least seven people dead and several others injured, police said.

Five of the dead were from the same family. They were identified as Fazlul Haque,35, his wife Fatema Begum,28, their son Abdullah,6, and daughter Ajmina,9, and Nazrul Islam,55, Fatema’s father.

The identities of the two other deceased could not be known yet, said police, adding that all those who suffered casualties were on board the bus.

The accident occurred around 3pm at Chelerghat in Trishal on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, said officer-in-charge of Trishal police station Mainuddin.

The crash killed five people on the spot. One succumbed to injuries on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, while another died in the hospital while under treatment.

Eight of the injured were admitted to the hospital. 

Traffic on the highway was disrupted for two hours after the accident, police said.

OC Mainuddin said the bodies will be handed over to their families.

The truck driver could not be detained yet but efforts are underway to capture him, he said, reports UNB.
