Mother, newborn killed in Satkhira road accident
A mother and her newborn baby were killed and four others injured on the Khulna-Satkhira highway in Mirzapur Shasan area under Patkelghata Thana of the district Wednesday afternoon.
A mother and her newborn baby were killed and four others injured on the Khulna-Satkhira highway in Mirzapur Shasan area under Patkelghata Thana of the district Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Tanjila Khatun, 40, wife of Alaul Islam, resident of Khalishani village of Assasuni upazila and her newborn daughter.
Alaul Islam, the husband of the victim, said that after the baby was delivered at home, the baby fell ill and was being taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
At this time, the ambulance collided head-on with a Satkhira-bound oil-laded truck coming from opposite direction in the area around 3pm, leaving the mother and her newborn baby died on the spot and four other injured.
The injured were taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, highway police and Patkelghata police sources said.
Police recovered the bodies from the spot.
Police seized the vehicles.
